Biology and Chemistry - no hard borders!

Anne Morgat

Winner: Biocuration Career Award

Over the last 20 years, the fields of genomics, proteomics and metabolism have greatly evolved.
A personal view of these changes, starting from a user's position in the pharmaceutical industry, then from a software development point of view in a computer sciences research environment, to finish with a data curation perspective in a bioinformatics institute (Swiss-Prot group, SIB) will be presented. The recent example of the integration of  Rhea as a  vocabulary for biochemical reactions used directly in UniProt will be discussed. A concrete application of the semantic web in life sciences will be shown.
